As usual with Unix systems, every machine in the machineroom has a name.
Naming a machine is an important matter, to the point that there are two RFC about it: RFC 2100 is an april fool's poetry, while RFC 1178 is a more serious collection of recommended practices to name computers.

One of the recommendations in RFC 1178 is to use theme names, preferrably themes with a large (or infinite) number of elements, to avoid running out of names as the network grows. I found myself using two main themes (which I prefer to call namespaces), with a few exceptions. These namespaces are:

Rivers from Auvergne
This is a virtually infinite namespace (if running out of names, just use a broader area). The huge majority of my systems use this namespace.
Fictional names from the Tékumel world
This is another virtually infinite namespace, thanks to the late Pr. Barker's imagination. I am mostly using continent names in this namespace.
Lakes from Auvergne
A small namespace closely related to the rivers.
Mountains and volcanoes from Auvergne
A small namespace closely related to the rivers.
Crosses from Auvergne
A small namespace using famous crosses names in hiking paths.
Flowers
A small namespace used to name some alpha systems only.
Exceptions
Not really a namespace... there are a few odd names which won't fit any of the other namespaces.
